Let me start by saying, I’m not a writer, which will become clear very quickly …. but I do understand people and their fears. Right, if you are still with me, then thank you for your unfound confidence in my knowledge of the subject, which from a technical standpoint is minimal. I want to write something that was from a non-technical person, who has cobbled together their knowledge from articles laden with acronyms, short conversations with the vaunted technical SME’s and the myriad of scaremongering articles out there in the e-world.
Businesses are overwhelmed by new technologies and innovative products every other day. It’s an era of innovation & disruption, or maybe we should call it innovation & evolution, for a more appropriate choice of word, (E always follows D in the order :). The quest for innovations has always been in the pursuit of becoming more efficient, resulting in the investments in R&D, gaining a bigger cut in the budgets. RL (Reinforcement learning) has proven its worth in a slew of AI-led (artificial intelligence) domains and is also starting to show successes in real-world cases. Deepmind developed AlphaGo for it to be able to beat the most challenging board game in the world – Go, which it did. In the real world, RL is playing a significant role in driving insightful decision-making across various industries such as optimizing manufacturing, solving supply-chain inventory problems, making healthcare safer, helping a car learn to drive by itself, etc. among many others.
